Rules for Homesitters

In addition to following the substantial manual covering all aspects of homesitting, our employees must observe these rules on all assignments.

.You must go through the Homesitters’ Checklist with the client and carry out your responsibilities precisely in accordance with the client’s instructions.

.The client’s home must not be left unoccupied by the registered Homesitter for any period exceeding three consecutive hours during daylight or one hour after dark. Where 24 hour cover is specified, the property must not be left unattended by Homesitters. When you are absent from the client’s home, windows and doors must be locked and secured, and any burglar alarm set as instructed.

.You should carry one house key with you whenever you step outside the home. Similarly, you should carry with you your completed Emergency Contact Card whenever you are absent from the client’s property.

.You should not vacate the client’s home until the client returns (except by express arrangement with the client and with Head Office).

.Smoking in the client’s home is prohibited.

.You must never take an accompanying pet on a homesit.

.Visitors are not allowed.

.You should never let anyone into the client’s home without prior authorisation from the client or after agreement with Head Office.

.If you have a problem or are ill, you should contact Head Office immediately.

.You should never undertake anything which might result in damage to the client’s property.
If any equipment breaks down and cannot easily be mended, take action as instructed by the client, or consult Head Office before calling in professional assistance.

.You should not divulge the client’s whereabouts to anyone unless you have been instructed to do so by the client.

.You should note any calls for the client, together with the time, date and caller’s name, and any message.

.Any telephone calls which you have to make during the course of your homesit should be kept as brief as possible, and a note should be made of them. You will be expected to pay for your private calls.

.All household expenses incurred during your homesit must be noted, and all receipts obtained. Any unexpected expenditure in excess of £20 requires prior discussion with Head Office.

.You should report any damage or loss to Head Office and to the client.

.You must respect the client’s privacy and confidentiality at all times.
