When out with his owner for the morning walk, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Dexter took off after a rabbit; it proved nearly fatal for him…
In single-minded pursuit, he ran across a busy road and was hit by a passing motorist who had no chance of taking avoiding action.

Brave Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - Dexter
With massive internal injuries as well as a fractured hip, it was touch and go as to whether the 8 month old pup would survive.
But with the dedicated care and skill of local vets Blythman and Partners in Gosforth and Croft Veterinary Hospital in Cramlington, Dexter came through after two lengthy and delicate operations.
Then his owner Georgia Thrussell faced a dilemma. She was due to be away from home the following week and needed to make arrangements for Dexter’s convalescence. She knew he would be happiest at home with all his favourite toys — but no family members were available to move in and look after him.
The solution? Homesitters! Dog-loving local sitter Mrs Mary Proud was only too happy to move in and give Dexter her devoted attention during the owner’s absence. We understand he spent most of the time firmly ensconced on her lap!
Latest reports from the grateful owner tell us that Dexter is well on the way to making an excellent recovery.
