Donna and Frank Mountain, aged 58 and 60, from North Yorkshire have found the perfect way to enjoy their retirement through homesitting. Having been homesitters with Homesitters Ltd for nearly four years, the couple enjoy their newfound freedom to travel, explore new places, and experience ‘mini holidays’ whenever they like.
Frank previously served in the RAF before taking a job as a site manager at a local special needs school, where Donna worked as a teaching assistant and both found their work incredibly fulfilling.
One reason they were attracted to homeitting was the fact Donna’s parents were also homesitters, and over the years they shared wonderful stories about the places they visited and the animals they cared for. Inspired by these experiences, Donna and Frank decided to take early retirement but wanted to keep busy while seeing different parts of the country.
“Now we’re retired, we can go away whenever we want, and homesitting makes that possible,” says Donna. “It’s the perfect way to travel without the high costs of accommodation while also enjoying the company of pets. Every homesit is a new adventure.”
Since starting their homesitting journey, they have travelled as far south as Kensington and as far north as Scotland and the variety of animals has been immense from sheep, hens and chickens to bearded dragons, axolotls, carp, goldfish, cats, and dogs.
Donna adds, “We’ve looked after so many different types of animals, every sit is a new challenge, but we love learning about different pets and their needs.”
Frank notes, “We also love the variety of homes we stay in, and each assignment feels like a mini holiday, and it keeps us active and engaged. We have reduced our energy bills as we’re away more often and this is a great bonus.”
The couple receives many repeat bookings and has built strong friendships with homeowners and pets alike. They love returning to familiar homes and reuniting with animals they have cared for in the past.
“One of the best parts is building relationships with the homeowners and their pets,” Frank explains. “We’ve made so many friends through homesitting, and it’s always great to be asked back to care for animals we’ve grown attached to.”
For Donna and Frank, homesitting is a fantastic way to stay active and enjoy retirement while still feeling retired. “It’s a great way to enjoy new experiences, and we love working with Homesitters Ltd. The company provides excellent support, with an emergency contact always on hand, giving us peace of mind.”
Homesitters Ltd provides fully vetted and reliable homesitters to homeowners who want peace of mind while they’re away.
For retirees like Donna and Frank, it’s an ideal way to experience different parts of the country, stay active, and enjoy the company of pets—all while providing a valuable service. The extra income they earn is put towards their own holidays, making homesitting a rewarding and fulfilling retirement activity.
