Andy and Eleanor Stinchcombe, a dynamic retired couple aged 61 and 54 from Lincoln, have found a unique and fulfilling way to spend their retirement by becoming professional homesitters through Homesitters Ltd.

The couple retired 15 years ago but previously both enjoyed successful careers at B&Q where - Andy was a Regional Manager and Eleanor was a General Store Manager.

Initially when they left work, the Stinchcombes turned their attention to property renovation. They enjoyed renovating and selling homes until their last project turned out so well that they decided to stay put. With a desire to find something new and meaningful to occupy their time, the couple explored different options. It was after the passing of their beloved Yorkie, Max, that they stumbled upon Homesitters as the perfect work opportunity that could combine their two passions: walking and dogs.

Eleanor explains, "After Max passed away, I was looking into dog walking as a profession and then came across home and pet sitting. It just seemed like the perfect fit—it had the whole package. We love travelling around the UK, and this job allowed us to combine our love for dogs and walking with the opportunity to explore new places. It was almost too good to be true."

As avid walkers, the Stinchcombes have always enjoyed spending hours outdoors, covering up to 90 miles in a week. Their new role as homesitters allows them to continue this active lifestyle while providing valuable services to homeowners and their pets. From ensuring the security of the property to taking dogs on long, satisfying walks, they bring a level of care and commitment that homeowners deeply appreciate.

Andy says: "It's not just about looking after homes; it's about making sure the pets are happy and well-exercised. It’s been a fantastic way for us to stay connected with our love for dogs while helping others and getting to spend so much time together."

On assignment, the Stinchcombes go above and beyond on their homesits. When they aren’t out walking the dogs, Andy can be found re-seeding lawns and doing general garden upkeep and maintenance, and Eleanor loves cleaning and tidying ensuring that homeowners return to a home that feels as welcoming and well-kept as they left it.

Eleanor comments: “We love staying active and busy and homesitting allows us to put our skills to use while taking care of pets and properties. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that we’re making a difference in both the homes we look after and the lives of the pets we care for."

Even though the couple do not homesit for any financial reward they have noticed surprising financial benefit to their household bills. By spending extended periods away from their own home, they have seen a significant drop in their energy consumption and other utility costs.

Eleanor says: "We were quite surprised at how much we've saved on our own bills. It's an unexpected perk of homesitting and adds to the already rewarding experience. It's been a win-win for us."
