Valentine's Day is approaching, and love is in the air. For many this is a time to head off on a romantic mini break. A recent travel trend report from Verdent Lesire revealed that romantic getaways are to be one of the most sought after holidays in 2024[i].

They also highlighted that the ‘staycation’ – holidaying in the UK - continues to be a big trend with nine in 10 (91%) respondents looking to go on a staycation, compared to 84% the year before.

One of the benefits of being a homesitter is they could potentially be on assignment over the Valentine period, which means they could be enjoying a Valentine staycation for free!

Homesitters are employed to look after people’s homes and pets when they go away. Many of our homesitters describe the role as like going on a mini holiday every time they head off on assignment.

With the opportunity it brings to explore new places this can enable those on assignment around Wednesday 14th February to embark on a romantic escape without the hefty price tag of a hotel or B&B.

For homesitters though it’s not all about the destination, it’s about caring for cherished homes and beloved pets. They could be staying in the countryside in a home complete with a cosy wood burner and a dog to enjoy a romantic walk with. Or in a vibrant city centre apartment with a couple of indoor cats that need some companionship whilst their owners are away.

Sharing a homesitting experience can be a real treat for couples looking to spend time together but doing something purposeful in a new and exciting location they have never been to before. Caring for the home and pets is the priority, but there is also time to pop out for a romantic pub lunch, tour a local attraction or wrap up warm for a winter walk.

What’s more homesitters are not paying for the privilege and will receive a modest remuneration for their time away. They will also get a small food allowance and mileage, plus make savings on their own energy bills. This extra income could be spent enjoying a Valentine meal out or splurging on some champagne and chocolates to enjoy indoors.

Taking a Valentine break as a homesitter offers couples the perfect blend of adventure, responsibility, and the kind of romance that can only be found in cosy family homes filled with warmth and wagging tails.

Homesitters is currently recruiting. Animal lovers that are seeking fresh challenges in 2024 should get in touch to find out how they could be enjoying their next romantic escape as homesitters.
