Introducing the ‘tomato-sitter’

Vegetable Garden

This story made us smile this week. It also made us think, do we need to introduce dedicated ‘tomato-sitters’?

A new survey commissioned by Wyevale Garden Centres[i], the UK’s largest chain, has found that 45 per cent of home growers are so passionate about their veggies they pay for someone to look after them while they are away.

According to Wyevale tomatoes are the most popular fruit and veg for people to grow, followed by salad leaves, potatoes, beans and peas; however, tomatoes in particular need a lot of care especially during hot weather when they need watering at least once a day.

Hence many people enlisting a trusted ‘sitter’ to tend their crops when they are away, a trend which is likely to continue given the growing popularity of people growing their own food.

Clients have been coming to us for 35 years to look after their homes, pets and gardens whilst they are on holiday. Will we now be receiving requests for veggie sitting too?

Our clients will know of course that our services do also include light household duties and keeping gardens in good order when on a home sitting assignment – so watering plants is something we are pretty used to doing.

So if you are an avid grower and have concerns about your plants whilst you are away why not drop us a line on 01296 630 730. We’ll send our top ‘tomato-sitter’ your way!
