Once the festive season is done and dusted, some people’s thoughts turn to snow and planning their next winter holiday on the slopes.

Many Brits take an annual ski or snow board holiday and according to Savill’s research[i] the UK has the world’s fifth largest number of national skiers – with 6.3 million people enjoying the sport.

This year’s annual report[ii] by the Post Office and Crystal Ski Holidays has highlighted that costs in many resorts are considerably cheaper than last year with holiday prices in popular resorts such as Kitzbuhel and Les Deux Alpes having fallen by 15.2% and 13.5% respectively.

According to the report, the main reason for this is the strong pound which is making many established resorts in France, Austria and Italy great value this year.

Bulgaria and Slovenia remain the cheapest places to ski and North America the most expensive, mainly because of the cost of flights.

This news is likely to encourage those that haven’t been skiing in a while to go so we expect a busier than usual winter ski season.

If you are heading off any time soon, remember to get your Homesitter booked early especially if you have pets.
