Summer solstice getaway - make the most of the longest day of the year

Summer Solstice

The Summer Solstice is just around the corner with the 21st June being the day that has the longest hours of daylight in the year.

Depending on where you are in the country the number of daylight hours will vary at this time of year, with those in Scotland experiencing around 17.5 hours of daylight, and those in London around 16.5 hours.

It’s therefore the ideal time of year for making the most of getting out and about in the UK. It’s also an opportunity to get away before the main summer break, avoiding the expensive peak holiday season and enjoying resorts and beaches when they are less crowded.

For those planning a holiday around this time make sure to get your homesitter booked up, sooner rather than later, to look after your home and pets when you are away.

Summer can often spark a rise in what police are calling ‘sneak-in-burglaries’ – a break-in that occurs when a window or door is left unlocked[i].

According to Halifax Home Insurance, opportunistic thieves ramp up their activity during summer, resulting in a 10% increase in domestic burglaries and a 40% increase in outdoor thefts.

Having a homesitter stay in your home whilst you are away can help prevent your home being the target of an opportunist burglar this.

A homesitter will also look after your pets, which saves having to worry about sending them off to kennels or catteries or trying to find a friend or relative to look after them at the last minute.

Most pets feel happier being looked after in their own home and sticking to their usual routine, which makes it much less stressful for them when you go away.
