Christmas Puppy

Lots of people will have welcomed a puppy for Christmas and are currently enjoying getting to know them and how their little pup ticks.

The first few months are spent learning to look after them properly, teaching them good manners and possibly enrolling them on a puppy training course.

However, many people who are new to dog ownership may not have thought beyond these first few months.

What happens when they want to go away on holiday?

Who is going to look after their new addition and make sure they stick with their usual routine?

The first four months of a dog’s life are a critical learning and socialisation period, and it is when dogs are most impressionable. Disruption during this time can make training or getting rid of bad habits more difficult in the future.

For those who don’t have family or friends willing to take on the task of looking after a young dog or don’t like the idea of putting them in kennels there is a solution – employing a Homesitter.

Homesitters are professional, reliable and dedicated people who will come and stay in your home whilst you go away and look after any pets you may have, as well as keep your home safe and secure.

They are also animal lovers and will have either owned pets themselves or have a great deal of experience looking after them.

This has many advantages for your new pup, with the main one being that they can stay in their own home environment whilst you are away so there is minimal disruption for them.

Dogs are creatures of habit, they like the same routine and they can pine in kennels or if they have to go and stay elsewhere. A young dog also needs consistency with its training and a Homesitter will have met you and your dog prior to taking on an assignment and can be fully briefed on what is required.

They will make sure your puppy has its walk and food at its usual time (many young dogs need several small feeds a day), is groomed to get it used to being handled and, if the dog is still very young, a Homesitter will make sure they stick with the toilet training routine you have established so its quicker for the dog to learn.

Overall, hiring a Homesitter can bring peace of mind that both your puppy and home are in the right hands.
